MRS. DITMARS-HOUSER
ART & ENL TEACHER
Mrs. Carol Ditmars Houser has been a cornerstone of BCHS since 2014, teaching both Visual Arts and English as a New Language with a dedication to creativity, literacy, and the power of self-expression. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and International Studies from Kenyon College and a Master of Arts in Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. Before joining BCHS, she taught art, worked in art museums, and served as an assistant teacher for French courses at the college level. In the classroom, Mrs. Ditmars Houser creates a safe space for exploration — whether a student is picking up a paintbrush or navigating a new language — and operates by the philosophy that "there are no mistakes in art." She is fair, flexible, and committed to helping every student feel seen, acknowledged, and inspired. A mother of two, she also enjoys yoga, cooking, and walking outside — and students are always surprised to learn she competed in track and field and cross country in college. She believes teenagers succeed when adults guide them meaningfully by being a good example.
