DR. HECKETHORN

Dr. Joel E. Heckethorn is a dedicated and compassionate education leader with over 29 years of experience as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal. Deeply passionate about supporting a diverse community of learners, his leadership is rooted in strong relationships, collaboration, and high expectations for every student. Since becoming Principal of Bronx Community High School in 2022, Dr. Heckethorn has led a powerful school transformation — strengthening school culture and achieving significant gains in attendance, Regents performance, enrollment, and graduation outcomes. Known for his warm, student-centered approach, he works closely with families, staff, and community partners to create a welcoming environment where students feel supported, challenged, and inspired to succeed.
